(Miami, FL, 1/12/26).- The International Committee for Democratic Action in Resistance Florida US sent an Open Letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The letter, expressing deep concern and a sense of democratic responsibility, respectfully requests the valuable intervention and leadership of honorable Marco Rubio within the framework of the new democratic transition process unfolding in Venezuela, particularly regarding the situation of individuals deprived of their liberty for political reasons.
“As is widely recognized by international organizations, human rights organizations, and various democratic governments, cases of arbitrary detentions, violations of fundamental rights, and severe restrictions on civil and political freedoms persist in Venezuela,” the letter argues, emphasizing that “these circumstances directly affect human dignity and significantly hinder any genuine progress toward the institutional and democratic recovery of the country.”
In this context, the release of all political prisoners is not only “a humanitarian imperative, but also an indispensable requirement to grant legitimacy, credibility, and viability to the democratic transition process. Their release would constitute a clear signal of commitment to respect for the rule of law, national reconciliation, and the democratic opening that Venezuelan society demands.”
The letter concludes: “We trust in your leadership, in the history of support from our United States government for democratic principles in the region, and in your historical solidarity with the Venezuelan people. We deeply appreciate your attention to this request and reiterate our willingness to collaborate in any effort that contributes to the strengthening of democracy and freedom in Venezuela.”
