(City of Miami, 02/28/2026).- The final day of Miami’s 2026 Black History Month celebration brought families, artists, and community leaders together this afternoon at Charles Hadley Park, where Mayor Eileen Higgins hosted a free public event honoring a century of Black history commemorations.
The celebration, themed “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” highlighted the cultural legacy and contributions of Miami’s Black community. Residents enjoyed an afternoon of food, live music, games, and performances by local artists—an atmosphere designed to be welcoming for all ages and reflective of the neighborhood’s long-standing cultural vibrancy.
A message of unity from City Hall
Mayor Higgins emphasized the importance of recognizing Black history not only during February but throughout the year, noting that Miami’s strength comes from the diversity of its communities. Her administration has framed the 2026 observance as an opportunity to honor past achievements while supporting ongoing efforts in education, arts, and civic participation.
Charles Hadley Park as a symbolic home
Hosting the closing celebration at Charles Hadley Park—an anchor of Liberty City—underscored the City’s commitment to celebrating Black heritage in the very neighborhoods that have shaped Miami’s cultural identity for generations. The park’s role as a community hub made it a fitting venue for the final day of festivities.
A month of reflection and celebration
This year’s Black History Month programming across Miami-Dade included exhibitions, lectures, youth activities, and tributes to local leaders. Today’s event closed the month with a focus on joy, community pride, and intergenerational connection, reinforcing the City’s message that Black history is a living, evolving story.
